Why You Should Spend Thanksgiving on Anna Maria Island

Fall leaves, pumpkin spice lattes, and cool weather. This image characterizes Thanksgiving, and it may be hard to imagine the holiday any other way. But what better way to express your thankfulness than to be surrounded by family and good food while also relaxing in the sun and sand? This year, consider spending your holiday on the picturesque white sand in your own Anna Maria Island vacation rental

AMI Weather

In fall, things start to cool off on Anna Maria Island. However, you can still expect perfect beach weather most of the time. In the mornings and evenings, there might be slightly cooler weather, but average high temperatures tend to stay in the 70s. September tends to be a fairly wet month, but conditions dry out by the time October comes around.

Since summer tends to be the height of both temperatures and tourist season, you can avoid both by coming during the fall months. This is another perk to coming during the fall season!

Enjoy Thanksgiving on the Beach

During your vacation, you’ll be nice and busy participating in AMI’s family-centered activities. And what is Thanksgiving really about, if not family? You’ll have plenty of time to bond and build lifelong memories together. On Thanksgiving Day, wake up to a stunning Gulf sunrise and take a stroll on the beach together.

When it comes to food, if you have any unique family traditions you wouldn’t want to break, each of our Anna Maria Island vacation rentals provides a fully equipped kitchen so that you can make a meal suited to your preferences. However, if you’d prefer to avoid all the hassle of shopping, cooking, and cleaning, you can simply eat out or order food for a beach picnic! Many Anna Maria Island restaurants offer unique Thanksgiving options. The food on AMI is truly a delight, and you can spruce up your regular Thanksgiving traditions with some seaside flare.

Family-Friendly Activities for Everyone

No matter the time of year, Anna Maria Island is full of activities for the whole family to enjoy. A family favorite is dolphin tours. These fun and friendly creatures swim along the coastline, and you are almost guaranteed to spot them while cruising along the shore. Many boat rental shops offer guided dolphin tours that bring you to the best locations and are also educational, with knowledgeable guides sharing information about the local ecosystems. If you’re lucky, you may even spot manatees! Tours tend to be quite flexible and may provide discounts for group or family tours.

Children will also find delight in the many unique boutiques and stores. Across the island, many souvenir shops sell locally made crafts, beach attire, and interactive toys. Any of these items would make great keepsakes to bring back home!

There are also plenty of souvenirs on this island that don’t require purchase. All along Anna Maria Island’s beautiful sandy beaches, you will find colorful seashells, many of which are still perfectly intact. The whole family can have fun combing the beaches together. If you’re lucky, you might even spot a sand dollar or shark tooth! The best places to look are along Manatee Public Beach, Palmetto Avenue Beach, Bayfront Park, Bean Point, or Coquina Public Beach.

For a more active family adventure, try zip lining at TreeUmph Adventure Course. It’s just a 45-minute drive from AMI and offers a 14-acre self-guided ziplining adventure that will entertain the family for the entire day! You can move at your own pace, and you’ll be trained by staff beforehand on using safety harnesses before getting started. At the end of the course, you’ll be rewarded with a 650-foot zip line that flies through the trees. You won’t forget this experience anytime soon!

BubbaQue’s

Last but certainly not least is BubbaQue’s, one of the most beloved Anna Maria Island restaurants since it opened in 2008. Boat Rentals

With a boating license in your hand, the waters surrounding Anna Maria Island are yours to explore freely with AMI Adventures Rentals boat rental opportunities. You and your family can be out cruising the waterways of Anna Maria Island, taking in a wide variety of spectacular beaches, enjoying delicious food from various locations, and just enjoying your time on the open water! Fishing Charter

Whether you are an experienced angler or someone who is just looking to test out fishing for the first time, we highly recommend booking a fishing charter during your time on Anna Maria Island. The waters around the island and further out in the Gulf are some of the best fishing spots in all of Florida. You can enjoy catching tarpon, red snapper, grouper, and even hook a marlin. The charters leave at various times during the day; however, we believe that some of the best fishing is in the early morning or early evening hours when the waters are less busy.

Private Activities & Tours

For something a little more secluded, perhaps even romantic, many private activities and tours can be booked for areas around the island. We highly recommend checking out the private sunset boat cruise for a truly romantic experience. You will explore the waterways surrounding the island and enjoy an utterly unencumbered view of the sunset over the Gulf. You can even hire a private chef to accompany you and make it a truly magical experience!

Guided Activities & Tours

Whether you are looking to soar through the skies on a parasailing tour, partake in some relaxing paddleboard yoga, or watch dolphins play in the wake of the boat, there are some genuinely incredible guided activities and excursions that can be booked through AMI Adventure Rentals. The entire family can participate in many of the activities and tours, and we recommend that they do! First, the kids will love a beach horseback riding experience, and then later, everyone can relax during a public sunset tour.

Road Trip from Anna Maria Island to Sarasota, FL

Taking a road trip through Florida is one of the best ways to experience the Sunshine State. Since so many of the state’s major destinations are within a quick drive of each other, you’ll be able to see several incredible cities all in just one day! One of the best Florida road trips to consider is a drive from Anna Maria Island to Sarasota.

Traveling to Sarasota

When you want to get from Anna Maria Island to Sarasota, there are several options for getting there. Suppose you have to fly into the area for your vacation. In that case, chances are that you’ll fly right into Sarasota anyway since the convenient Sarasota-Bradenton International Airport is the closest major airport to AMI. You can either rent a car at this point or hire a car service to get you to Anna Maria Island.

However, when you’re coming into Sarasota for fun, you’re going to want to head to downtown Sarasota, which doesn’t take you down the same route as traveling to and from the airport.

How Far Away is Sarasota from Anna Maria Island?

car in movement driving to anna maria island

To get from Anna Maria Island to Sarasota, the journey is only about 21 miles, which typically takes about 40 minutes to drive. You can make it to Sarasota early in the morning, grab a delicious breakfast, spend the whole day exploring the sites, and still make it back home to Anna Maria Island by dinner!

Starting in Anna Maria Island, you’ll want to make your way east on 50th Street toward 2nd Avenue. You’ll then make your way onto FL-64 E/Manatee Avenue and stay on this road for 4.6 miles. Turn right onto 75th Street W and continue for 3.3 miles. At the traffic circle, take the first exit onto El Conquistador Parkway. You’ll come to another traffic circle after 1.8 miles, where you’ll want to take the second exit to stay on El Conquistador Parkway for another 1.4 miles.

Continue onto Bayshore Gardens Parkway for 1.3 miles before turning right onto US-41 S. Stay on this road for 5.9 miles, then at the traffic circle, take the second exit onto N Tamiami Trail. You’ll reach yet another traffic circle in 0.4 miles, where you’ll take the third exit onto 10th Street. Then, just turn right onto N Washington Boulevard and left onto Main Street in Sarasota!

Things to Do in Sarasota

Now that you’ve made it to Sarasota, you’re going to want to check out all the best things to do in town. There’s a little something for everyone here, from nature sites and historical museums to beaches, family activities, tours, and more. This list is just the beginning of some of the most exciting things to do in Sarasota!

To get up close and personal with some of the most fascinating wildlife, make your way to Big Cat Habitat and Gulf Coast Sanctuary. (Note that this is not the Big Cat Rescue associated with Carole Baskin of Tiger King; that facility is located in Tampa.) Big Cat Habitat was founded in 1987 by Kay Rosaire and her family and has faithfully served the area. Here, you’ll find more than 150 incredible species of both domestic and exotic animals. You can observe from afar or get up close and personal with their awesome animal encounters! Big Cat Habitat is open Wednesday through Sunday from 12 noon to 4 p.m.

Sarasota is also home to The Ringling, a vast estate home of circus legend John Ringling and his wife, Mable. While there are several different portions of this establishment, the Museum of Art is one piece you certainly don’t want to miss! The gallery first opened in 1930 and has since housed 21 stunning artwork galleries from Ringling’s permanent collection. Several galleries are currently being restored, but there is still plenty to see for a fun afternoon excursion.

What would a vacation to Sarasota be like without spending some time at the beach? Out of all the fantastic stretches of shoreline here, we definitely recommend you spend some time at South Lido Beach. You’ll find 100 acres of coastal habitats throughout South Lido Park, and you’ll always have beautiful views of the Gulf of Mexico and Sarasota Bay. Whether you want to sunbathe, splash around in the water, or watch the beautiful local birds as they fly by, you can do it all right here at South Lido Beach.

Places to Eat

While you’re in town, you’re sure to get hungry! Whether you’re searching for a classic American breakfast, a quick seafood lunch, a delicious global dinner, or a sweet treat for dessert, you can find it all here in Sarasota. There are countless local restaurants in Sarasota to suit every palate or budget. Still, these are a few of our stand-out options.

Big Water Fish Market might just sound like a place where you can grab some fish to prepare for dinner, but you can actually enjoy a great meal right here! They only serve the freshest local seafood, and you can taste the difference right there on the plate. Big Water Fish Market has about every variety of seafood imaginable, from shrimp and crab to scallops, grouper, oysters, tuna, pompano, snapper, cobia, and so much more! They also have delicious specials every day of the week for a truly memorable meal.

If you’re searching for something a bit more upscale to have a romantic dinner or celebrate a special occasion, look no further than Michael’s on East. They’ve been serving locals and visitors to Sarasota since 1987 and offer mouthwatering dishes in a simply breathtaking setting. The menus change every month to take advantage of the freshest ingredients. Still, you can always rest assured that the dishes will be globally inspired and thoughtfully prepared. Be sure to ask your wait staff for a recommendation on the best wine to complement your meal!

Finally, for all the most delicious seafood in a more casual setting, you can’t go wrong with a trip to Antoine’s. Antoine’s was established back in 1840, making it the oldest family-run restaurant in the country! Today, this establishment is still serving up the Creole classics that guests have come to love, from Creole shrimp and classic fish amandine to pompano pontchartrain and more. Don’t miss out on some of Antoine’s bread pudding or jubilee cheesecake for dessert!

couple on the beach

AMI is truly a fascinating place and has a rich story behind the island as we know it today! The best place to get more information about the early days of Anna Maria Island is at the Anna Maria Island Historical Society Museum. Don’t miss out on this attraction during your stay in one of our Anna Maria Island vacation rentals!

Discover AMI History

At the Anna Maria Island Historical Society Museum, you can learn all about the incredible story of the island. You’ll start by learning about the Native American peoples who lived in the area and used AMI as a fishing camp until the Spanish arrived. Then, you’ll get to know George Emerson Beach, who was the first permanent resident of Anna Maria Island and lived on the shorelines of what is today known as Bean Point Beach. You’ll see photos and artifacts that illustrate life on the island in its early days.

anna maria jail

As you walk through the museum, you’ll actually be getting more history than you realize simply because of the building you’re in! The building that houses the Anna Maria Island Historical Society Museum used to function as an icehouse back in the 1920s! After its icehouse days, the building was used as an automobile garage, a sea turtle hatchery, and even a public administration building. It’s been the home of the Historical Society Museum since 1992.

But the main Museum building isn’t the only attraction on the grounds. Visitors can also explore the Anna Maria City Jail, which is one of the main tourist attractions on the island (and is a great place for a photo op!). The jail was built in 1927 and was used until a fire claimed it in the 1940s. The property also holds Belle Haven, a historic cottage that was built in 1920 and actually fell into the bay just 6 years later. It was retrieved from the waters and served as a family home for around 50 years. Today, it houses heirlooms and antiques that early island residents would have used.

General Information

The Anna Maria Island Historical Society Museum is located at 402 Pine Avenue in the city of Anna Maria. Visitors are welcome Monday through Friday from 11 a.m. until 3 p.m. You can easily get to the museum by taking the free Anna Maria Island trolley and getting off at the “Crescent Drive at Pine Avenue” stop. One of the best parts of this attractions is how budget-friendly it is; admission is absolutely free! That being said, the Museum continues to operate thanks to generous donors, so any extra money you can spare is highly appreciated.

Everything You Need to Know About Bean Point Beach

When you’re planning a trip to Anna Maria Island, one of the best things to learn about is the local beaches. You can visit Manatee Public Beach or Coquina Beach for a fun-filled family experience, or you can head to Bayfront Park for some time on the sand near some of the island’s most popular attractions. But if you’re looking for a place where you can escape the crowds and spend some time alone or plan a romantic beach evening with your sweetheart, Bean Point Beach is the ultimate solution!

Bean Point Beach is located in the northern section of the island in the City of Anna Maria. This area is actually steeped in history, as it is the former location of the home of George Emerson Bean, the very first permanent resident of the island. As interesting as this stretch of shoreline is, it’s quite off the beaten path, so not many crowds make their way there. Before you head to Bean Point Beach for yourself, here’s everything you’ll need to know!

ocean shore

How to Get There

The first thing to learn about Bean Point Beach is how to get there. Luckily, it’s a pretty easy journey. Wherever you’re starting from on the island, you’ll want to make your way to Gulf Drive, which extends through the entirety of AMI. Head north until you can turn right onto Pine Avenue, then turn left at the first cross street onto North Shore Drive. You’ll then simply follow this road about 0.7 miles until you reach the very northernmost point of the island.

Once you’re there, you’ll need to look out for an entrance. There are a few options for getting onto the beach; just look for the white signs noting where the beach access points are located. The “main” entrance is at a small crossroads where North Bay Boulevard and North Shore Drive meet. Entrances can also be found at the intersection of Fern Street and North Shore Drive, as well as the intersection of Gladiolus Street and North Shore Drive.

Wildlife You Will See

pelican

Once you arrive on Bean Point Beach, one of the first things you’ll notice is the abundance of wildlife. Since there aren’t quite as many tourists here as there are on the island’s other beaches, this stretch of shoreline has remained relatively undisturbed, and as such, it’s a great spot for watching wildlife! The local animals aren’t scared to come here and set up shop since they aren’t worried about being disturbed by humans.

Bean Point Beach is an incredible location for birdwatching, both for native species and migrating varieties. A few of the species you might spot include herons, pelicans, cranes, crows, eagles, seagulls, spoonbills, and more! In addition to birds, you might even be able to spot some majestic marine life if you keep your eyes peeled. Though they might be hard to see, it’s not totally uncommon to find a few manatees or a pod of dolphins!

Where to Stay

Bean Point Beach is ideal for coming to watch the local wildlife, experience a romantic picnic on the beach, or simply watch the waves roll in away from the tourist crowd. If you want ample time to explore Bean Point Beach and all the other attractions of Anna Maria Island, book one of our convenient rentals for as long as you need to! No matter who you’re traveling with, how long you’re in town, or how much you’re looking to spend, we are proud to have a vacation rental that will perfectly suit your needs. Why Are Vacation Rentals Better Than A Hotel for An Anna Maria Island Family Vacation?

When deciding to go on vacation, one of the hardest decisions to make is where to stay with your family. For starters, people often look at social media reviews of various hotels to determine if they want to stay there. For larger families that may need larger spaces, it’s quite likely those people may look at short-term rentals. However, vacation rentals are truly the best option! Vacation rentals provide families with a number of features that will not be found elsewhere.

To start with, vacation rentals are so much more secure and private than a hotel. With hotels, anyone can walk in off the street and walk right up to your room. That individual could potentially even gain access to your room when housekeeping is cleaning by pretending to be you. With a vacation rental, this simply does not happen. May rentals are in a gated community that only designated people may enter. Additionally, no one else will have access to your vacation rental besides you. You never need to worry about anyone walking in!

Save Money

Vacation rentals can save you a ton of money in a number of ways! Depending on how large your party is, you run the potential to have to rent two or three hotel rooms. One vacation rental could accommodate a big family like that saving you on rooming costs. With hotels, every meal must be eaten out as there are no refrigerators or kitchens. Vacation rentals often come with fully equipped kitchens allowing you to cook every meal in your rental. Even for a couple, this can save a lot of money. For a whole family, you could spend that money on a whole other vacation!

Less Community Contact Points

Since the onset of COVID-19, community contact points have become an increasingly common point of contention among travelers. When booking with a hotel, you have to interact with multiple front desk workers as your check-in and check-out as well as cleaning staff each day. With a vacation rental, many rentals will allow a digital check-in for less community contact points. Since you are the cleaning staff, you have the potential to interact with no one during your stay. For those looking to keep to themselves, this is a fantastic option. For those looking to minimize their risk, vacation rentals are also a wildly popular option.

Book with Confidence and Flexibility

The bad thing about hotels is that booking with one feels uncertain. You’re never quite sure what the state of your room will be. It leaves you wondering and second guessing yourself until the moment that you enter your assigned room. With a vacation rental, you know exactly what you are booking. Vacation rentals often feature detailed pictures of your handpicked vacation rental which allows you to book with extreme confidence. As well, hotels often don’t allow flexibility. If you need to cancel or change your booking date, hotels often won’t allow you leaving you on the hook for the bill. With vacation rentals, flexibility is a common feature. If you need to cancel or change your date, it’s as easy as contacting the rental company. Book with complete confidence in mind!

Feel Like A Local

couple on beach

Hotels are tourist centers. Everyone staying at the hotel is most likely from out of town and either located by the airport or near major tourist attractions. Vacation rentals, on the other hand, make you feel like a local. Not only are you staying in a fully functional condo or home, but you are living among locals! Nothing signifies you as a tourist! You are in a local neighborhood near local restaurants and attractions. It not only gives your trip a more authentic feel but allows your wallet to relax as well by not paying tourist pricing.

When trying to decide where to stay on your next trip, vacation rentals are the clear winner! From saving money to privacy to security, and more, vacation rentals are an amazing option. Grab Your Bike and Explore These Bike Trails on Anna Maria Island

Anna Maria Island is full of fun outdoor activities like kayaking, parasailing, paddleboarding, and more. However, one of the island’s most popular outdoor activities doesn’t involve the water: cycling! Not only is bicycling an affordable way to get around the island, but it’s also a great way to get some exercise and see the island in a whole new way. Luckily, Anna Maria Island has several convenient bike trails that make it easy for you to navigate anywhere you’d like to go!

Coquina Bike Path

Coquina Beach is a popular attraction in the city of Bradenton Beach at Anna Maria Island’s southern end. You can easily travel the length of the shoreline thanks to the Coquina Bike Path! This multi-use trail will take you all the way down Coquina Beach with a gorgeous view of the sand and the water. You can also take the path onto Gulf Drive to go into Bradenton Beach and experience all the incredible shops and restaurants downtown. If you find yourself at the island’s southern end, this is a bike trail you won’t want to miss!

City Bike Paths

Throughout the island, there are several city bike paths that you can use to easily navigate the island. Specifically, Gulf Drive has convenient bike paths that take riders along the main thoroughfare and can get you in between AMI’s three cities in a snap. Many of the paths along the island are multi-use, so you’ll likely see walkers along the path instead of only bikers. The Pine Avenue path is a good option as well, and it’s only going to get better thanks to the ongoing renovations. No matter where you are on the island, you should be able to find a path that takes you to any attraction you please.

State Park and Nature Preserves

If you’re wanting to take a bike ride through nature, head 15 minutes away from Anna Maria Island to get to Robinson Preserve in mainland Bradenton (not to be confused with Bradenton Beach on the island). This 487-acre preserve has a 7.5-mile trail for walking and biking. You’ll be taken through the most beautiful sections of the preserve, putting you face-to-face with the wildlife and bird species within the preserve.

Another option to bike in Bradenton is Lake Manatee State Park. This destination lies just outside of the city and maintains 6.5 miles of trail for you to experience. On your bike ride, you’ll go through several different types of ecosystems like sand pine scrubs and flatwoods. You’ll also get to see wildlife species like foxes, bobcats, and eagles!

Bradenton Beach Bike Paths

Bradenton Beach can be easily reached with the bike paths throughout the island. When you combine all the bike paths around the island, they connect for more than 50 miles of trail! The bike lanes throughout Bradenton Beach connect you to many of the attractions we’ve already discussed, like Coquina Beach. You can also use the bike paths here to get to nearby locations like Cortez Beach or Longboat Key.

Perhaps the best part of these bike paths is the fact that you don’t have to bring your own bike! There are tons of bike rental shops where you can get equipment for the entire family. Once you’ve rented your bike and explored the island to your heart’s content, you can head back to our Anna Maria Island vacation rentals to relax with your loved ones. We can’t wait to show you why we love AMI! Contact us today to learn more about our vacation rentals on Anna Maria Island!

Anna Maria Island is an unmatched vacation destination at any time of year, especially if you’re traveling with your family. However, if you have the opportunity to visit AMI in the fall, take it! Fall is one of the most exciting seasons on Anna Maria Island thanks to the combination of the phenomenal weather and incredible attractions that your whole group will love. We’ve always got an Anna Maria Island vacation rental waiting for you, so you’ll be right near all the action!

Weather

The fall weather in Anna Maria Island simply cannot be beaten. For the months of September, October, and November, high temperatures usually get into the 80s, and low temperatures dip down into the 60s. This time of year brings slightly cooler mornings and evenings, so you’ll want a light jacket so you can enjoy the island all day long. It’s still perfect weather to enjoy all the outdoor and water activities in the heat of the day!

You also won’t need to worry about rain ruining your plans. September is still considered the wet season, but October and November are much drier. If you do happen to run into some rain, it’s probably going to be in the form of an afternoon shower, which helps to cool off the island for a comfortable evening.

Things to Do

Fall is the ideal time of year in Anna Maria Island because you can take full advantage of both the indoor and outdoor activities available. Take the beaches, for instance. They’re ideal for having a morning stroll as you watch the sunrise or an evening walk to pick up seashells while the sun dips down under the horizon. During the day, you can always find a spot on the shore, since fall tends to be less crowded than other seasons.

You won’t want to miss out on the farmers’ markets if you visit in the fall. The Historic Bridge Street Market and the Coquina Beach Market are two of the best fall activities on the island, giving you the chance to mingle with the locals and experience fresh produce, unique arts and crafts, and delicious food.

There are also tons of great events throughout AMI and on the mainland. For instance, Bayfest is held every October on Pine Avenue. This event is the island’s longest-running crafts and music festival and promises to be an exciting time every single year! If you can’t find enough to do on AMI, there’s plenty more to discover on the mainland in nearby Bradenton or Sarasota.

The nature of Anna Maria Island is never more beautiful than it is in the fall. Head to Robinson Nature Preserve to get a one-of-a-kind look at the incredible flora and fauna of the island. DeSoto National Memorial Park is another great spot, offering both stunning nature and fascinating history.

If you’re visiting with kids, there’s no lack of things to get involved in! Let out your competitive side at The Fish Hole Miniature Golf, or give your kids plenty of room to run around at Bayfront Park. Get all your souvenirs on Bridge Street, and don’t forget to grab dessert at The Donut Experiment!

Where to Stay

Since Anna Maria Island doesn’t see huge crowds in the fall, it’s an excellent time to get a great deal on a rental. We are proud to offer Anna Maria Island accommodations in all three cities on the island: the City of Anna Maria, Holmes Beach, and Bradenton Beach. No matter how big or small your group is, we’ve got the perfect rental for you. Contact us today to learn more!

The Best Hikes in Anna Maria Island

Your vacation to Anna Maria Island is bound to be full of the outdoors. If you just want to relax on the beach, you’re totally able to do that. But if you want to get up close and personal with nature, there are several great locations nearby to do that, too. One of the best ways to see nature and get your exercise at the same time is by hiking! The trails in Anna Maria Island are great for all ages and make the perfect way to bring your family together. Here are three of our favorite hiking spots in the area.

Leffis Key Preserve

Leffis Key Preserve is a favorite spot of locals and visitors alike, mainly known for its unmatched view of Sarasota Bay. The area used to be a spoil island overgrown with non-native plants that reduced its habitat value, but the government and private organizations worked together to restore and enhance its glory.

Florida nature

Guests are welcome to hike the 0.65-mile trail that takes them through the finest Florida nature. Footpaths circle and scale the hill, and 1,500 linear feet of boardwalk takes you through strategically placed viewing platforms over the water. You can also learn about the area, spend some time fishing, or observe the incredible bird and wildlife species. Leffis Key Preserve is sure to be a location that gets the whole family talking!

Neal Preserve

At Neal Preserve, you get stunning nature mixed in with fascinating history. You can explore reconstructed burial mounds from when the area was inhabited by Native Americans from the 3000 BC to 1400 AD. While you won’t be able to bring your pet along the trail, you and the rest of your family will love hiking the trails through the coastal habitats like mangrove forests and salt terns.

Neal Preserve has a half-mile shell and boardwalk trail where you can take your time strolling along and finding a unique souvenir to take home with you. This trail is incredibly peaceful, allowing you to check out the nesting birds in the trees and simply connect with the nature around you. You can visit Neal Preserve in nearby Bradenton any day of the week, making it easy to fit into your itinerary.

Perico Preserve

Perico Preserve is the first of its kind to be completely conceptualized as a bird sanctuary. Originally, this area was farmland, but today, you’ll find a breathtaking mix of habitats like coastal wetlands, scrub hills, and upland areas. If you are a bird lover, this is one spot that you simply can’t miss out on! (Don’t forget your camera!)

White bird

While visitors are encouraged to hike the trails, be aware of restrictions if you plan to bike. Some trails are specifically designated for bikes, but on others, they preserve staff requests that you travel forth on foot. This practice helps to ensure that the native birds and wildlife in the area have the best chance of maintaining their natural behavior and breeding and rearing their young.

These are just a few of the beautiful hiking opportunities you’ll have in and around Anna Maria Island. Whether you have been an avid hiker for years or you are new to the activity, you’ll find a trail that’s just right for your interests and skill level. While you’re packing for vacation, be sure to include a good pair of binoculars and a sturdy set of shoes so that you can take on these trails yourself!

One of the best parts about each of these trails is their close proximity to our Anna Maria Island vacation homes. We are proud to offer vacation rentals that suit any and every group, and if you’re not sure where to start looking, our dedicated staff is happy to help. Then, you’ll be all set no matter when you choose to book your Anna Maria Island vacation rentals!

Weather Overview

For the spring months of March, April, and May, Anna Maria Island sees quite a change in weather from the beginning to the end of the season. In early March, temperatures stay in the 60s, but by the time Memorial Day Weekend rolls around, it’s not uncommon to see high temperatures hit 85! The island is beautiful during this season and typically doesn’t see too much rain, though precipitation chances do increase toward the end of spring.

The summertime, as you can probably expect, is downright hot. Throughout the months of June, July, and August, high temperatures stay in the 80s and can even get into the 90s. This is the best time of year for watersports and typically sees the largest crowds of the entire year. Afternoon showers often provide a respite from the oppressive heat, since summer is the wet season with an average daily rain chance around 60%.

beach bike and hat

Things start to cool off during the fall in Anna Maria Island. During September, October, and November, average high temperatures tend to stay in the 70s. You may experience slightly cooler weather in the mornings and evenings, but the daytime is still great for walking around and experiencing the island’s outdoor activities. As far as rain, September is still quite wet, but conditions dry out when October hits.

Finally, winter in Anna Maria Island is the coldest season, but temperatures still don’t get nearly as low as they do in other areas of the country. Throughout December, January, and February, you’re likely to experience high temperatures in the 60s or low 70s. You’ll definitely need to be prepared for chilly evenings! The winter is the dry season, so at least you can rest assured that you won’t have to deal with rain on top of the colder weather.

What to Pack

No matter what time of year you plan to visit Anna Maria Island, you’ll always want to bring some short-sleeved shirts and shorts. In the cooler seasons, you may also want to bring at least one pair of long pants and one long-sleeved shirt. A light jacket is a good idea all year long, too, since you can use it in case of a rain shower or for cooler mornings and nights.

kids running on the beach

You’re also going to want comfortable shoes since you’ll be doing quite a lot of walking during your vacation. Finally, don’t forget the electronics! In addition to your cell phone, camera, laptop, and tablet, make sure you bring the chargers for every device.
