What is the Weather Like in Anna Maria Island?

When you’re planning a getaway to Anna Maria Island, you’re probably thinking about all the fun things you’ll get to do and the incredible memories you plan to make with your family. You might be busy worrying about travel arrangements or securing your Anna Maria accommodations. But don’t forget to think about the weather! Knowing a bit about the typical weather can help you determine what to pack, when to visit, and what to put on your itinerary. Here’s a quick breakdown of the seasonal weather on Anna Maria Island.

If you assume summer is the hottest month on Anna Maria Island, you’d be right. Average temperatures throughout June, July, and August range in the 80s most of the time. If you’re interested in outdoor activities like swimming and fishing, this is the ultimate season to visit! Don’t forget to pack your sunscreen and hat!

You’ll also probably want an umbrella or light jacket for the summer, as it’s AMI’s wet season. There’s an average 50%-70% daily chance of rain during this season, but it mostly comes as afternoon showers that bring forth a cooler evening. You can also take this time to return to your rental and relax before dinner.

During the fall, Anna Maria Island starts to cool off, but it’s just as fun as summertime! For September, October, and November, temperatures tend to stay in the 60s and 70s. You’ll likely want to pack mostly shorts, but one pair of long pants won’t hurt, either. Particularly if you’ll be out in the early morning or late evening, you’ll want an additional layer.

As for rain, September might still bring some showers, but as the season progresses, the chances drop significantly. October and November only have about a 20% chance of rain daily, so your plans shouldn’t be impacted. This is the perfect time to enjoy both the indoor and outdoor activities of AMI!

Winter is a popular tourist season around Christmas, but it’s definitely not as crowded as other periods. Throughout December, January, and February, expect temperatures in the 60s. This season will definitely call for a longer pair of pants, a light jacket, and a sturdy pair of close-toed shoes. You can still participate in outdoor activities, but just be sure to plan ahead.

Even though it’s a bit chilly in the winter, at least you don’t have to worry about rain. Winter is the dry season on Anna Maria Island with an average 20% chance of precipitation daily. You definitely won’t be seeing a white Christmas here!

Finally, springtime brings slightly warmer temperatures as AMI starts to gear up for the busy summer season to come around again. If you’re visiting in March, April, or May, you’ll likely encounter temperatures in the 60s and 70s. The later you visit in the season, the warmer it will be. Some years, May makes it feel like summer’s come early!

March and April tend to be pretty dry months with a 20% chance of rain, but toward the end of May, that chance shoots up to around 40%. While it’s certainly not the rainiest season on the island, it’s still not a bad idea to throw an umbrella in your bag or come up with alternate plans just in case.
